Vegfest 2017
Date: September 2, 2017
Event Leads: Deesha Ajmera and Arjav Jain
JYOC hosted a booth at the annual DC VegFest for the 5th year in a row. We were educating the DC public about plant-based proteins in a vegan diet by giving out lentil and rice samples and selling packets of dry lentils with masala that people can cook at home. This was definitely the most successful Vegfest yet, with about 3000 samples given out and over $600 collected through donations. Huge thanks to all our adult and youth volunteers for making this event successful!

JYOC Walkathon
Date: July 17, 2017
Event Leads: Deesha Ajmera and Sara Jain
Event Co-leads: Varun Singhai, Sanket Shah, Ayush Jain
The Picnic/Walkathon was JYOC’s first major event in our first year. We were happy to have over 150 JSMW community members come out. Our three main objectives for this event were to raise money for the temple, to encourage a healthy lifestyle within the JSMW community, and to increase unity within our community. Through pledges for the walkathon, we were able to raise funds to give directly back to our temple. At the picnic, we served our attendees food and played games involving both kids and adults.

Clothing Drive (First JYOC Event!)
Date: Winter 2016
In the winter of 2016 - 2017, we collected clothes to give back to the temple. We collected in the temple via a donation box, as well as, in the Pathshala classes with incentives for the class who collected the most. Overall, we collected a little under 3,000 items of clothing in the span of around 6 weeks. This was extremely successful for our first event! On January 27th, 2017, these clothes were donated to Shepherd's Table and Value Village Thrift Store, and from there will be distributed to the homeless and disadvantaged in the immediate Washington Metro area. JYOC would like to give a special thanks to our Pathshala community and everyone else who donated; the drive would not have been anywhere near successful if not for all of their contributions.
